Syracuse is the cultural cradle of the Magna Grecia, so wide was its brightness that, for a long time until the Roman occupation, it was the most important 'polis' of ancient Greek world.
Here was born Archimedes, symbol of excellence and intellectual fervour of those times. It's possible to find many traces of the Greek Corinth colonization as the Archaeological Park, where's sited the famous Greek Theatre.
In these amazing Theatre, every year an international kermesse is performed: the 'Rappresentazioni Classiche', classical tragedies of the highest authors of ancientness as Sophocles, Euripides, Eschilo... As well as the Isle of Ortigia, with its landscape and monuments, the 'Paolo Orsi' Museum: a very important collection of Greek and roman relics. Even the hinterland, as the wonderful landscapes of Palazzolo, the Baroque of old Noto, the 'necropolis' of Pantalica and the coast of Syracuse are very interesting, as the beach and the little sea-village of Marzamemi, the beaches of the natural reserve of Calamosche, Porto Palo, the touristy zones of Fontane Bianche and Arenella.
